Start your day in Ho Chi Minh City with a visit to the War Remnants Museum to learn about the Vietnam War from a Vietnamese perspective. Next, head to the Reunification Palace, where you can see the famous tanks that crashed through the gates in 1975. Finish your morning with a visit to the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office, both stunning examples of French colonial architecture.
Afternoon
For lunch, head to Ben Thanh Market, where you can sample some of the city's best street food, including banh mi sandwiches and pho noodle soup. After lunch, take a stroll around the city's historic Dong Khoi Street, and visit the Saigon Opera House and the Bitexco Financial Tower for some amazing views of the city. In the afternoon, take a tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels, an extensive network of tunnels used by Vietnamese soldiers during the war.
Morning
Start your day in Hanoi with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where you can see the embalmed body of the famous Vietnamese leader. Next, head to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, and admire the beautiful gardens and architecture. Finish your morning with a visit to the Hoa Lo Prison, also known as the "Hanoi Hilton," where American prisoners of war were held during the Vietnam War.
Afternoon
For lunch, head to the Old Quarter, a maze of narrow streets and alleys filled with food stalls and shops. Sample some of the city's famous pho noodle soup or try some banh mi sandwiches. After lunch, visit the Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple, two of the city's most famous landmarks. In the afternoon, take a cyclo ride around the city's historic streets, and visit the St. Joseph's Cathedral and the Hanoi Opera House.
Evening
Finish your day with a visit to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, where you can watch a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show. After the show, head to the Hanoi Night Market, a bustling street market filled with food stalls and shops selling souvenirs and local handicrafts.
Morning
Head to the Mekong Delta for a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City. Take a boat tour of the delta's many waterways, and visit local villages and markets. Sample some of the delta's famous fruits and vegetables, and enjoy a home-cooked lunch with a local family. In the morning, visit the Cai Be Floating Market, where vendors sell their wares from boats on the river.
Afternoon
Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon and visit the Jade Emperor Pagoda, a beautiful Taoist temple filled with intricate carvings and statues. Next, visit the Ben Thanh Night Market, a bustling street market filled with food stalls and shops selling souvenirs and local handicrafts.
Morning
Take a day trip from Hanoi to the Ninh Binh Province, known as the "Halong Bay on land." Take a boat tour of the Tam Coc waterways, surrounded by limestone cliffs and rice paddies. Visit the Bich Dong Pagoda, a beautiful temple built into the side of a mountain. In the morning, visit the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the former capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries.
Afternoon
Return to Hanoi in the afternoon and visit the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, which showcases the country's many ethnic groups and their cultures. Next, visit the Long Bien Bridge, a historic bridge built by the French in 1902. In the afternoon, take a cooking class and learn how to make some of Vietnam's famous dishes, such as pho noodle soup and spring rolls.
