Visiting an elephant sanctuary, one in Chiang Mai is a must! After all ‘Chang’ means elephant🐘⁣ SAVE FOR LATER ⁣ I visited Maesa Elephant Sanctuary and I believe it was very ethical. Most of the residents here were retired performance elephant and therefore have been rescued are now looked after by this elephant sanctuary. Not any point, were the elephants forced to interact with you, seen performing tricks or anything similar. The elephants had so much space and were NOT chained and the guide explained to us they have a huge amount of land where are the elephants roam free at night. ⁣ ⁣ As part of this experience, you simply were able to feed them many of their favourite foods which helps the elephants as our guide explained how much elephants need to eat per day! 🐘 The Best Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand (or one of them!)  As animal lovers, we are always so hesitant to engage in animal tourism... often it’s difficult to know for sure if something is ethical or not! Fortunately, elephant riding is becoming less and less common but many of the practices that have replaced riding such as bathing are still not in the best interest of the elephant and take away the elephant’s freedom and cause a ton of stress. 😢 The training that goes into controlling elephants is simply horrific and I know that any of you who are animal lovers would not want to support anything that causes elephants stress or takes away their freedom! ❤️‍🩹 Thankfully there are SO many amazing sanctuaries now that do put the welfare of the elephants first. @danielle4wildlife has a whole page dedicated to ethical elephant facilities around the world that you can check out and this is where we found out about ChangChill (Link in Danielle’s bio) @changchill_th is just an hour from Chiang Mai and the sanctuary will collect you and drop you off from the city as part of your ticket price 😄 So how can you visit? 🐘You can book online and they offer full-day tours (£55 or 2500THB ) Including lunch and tea and coffee and half-day tours (£42 or 1900THB ) What does your day consist of? 🐘In the morning you Search the forests for the elephants - the mahouts stay with the elephants but the elephants are not forced to go anywhere so its down to chance what you see but this means you get to see NATURAL behaviour! We saw all of the elephants wandering around and it was quite emotional seeing them so closely just eating or foraging.  🐘In the afternoon you chop bamboo for them and although We waited quite a while for them to appear at the river they eventually came and it was worth the wait watching them snacking and having fun! Our tour guide was incredible and It was honestly such an adventure and one of the best experiences of my life!  I think everyone should get to experience this amazing place so please if you visit Chiang Mai add it to your bucket list! #changchillpark #elephantsanctuarychiangmai #elephantsantuary

Where to see the BEST waterfalls in Thailand 👇 Okay … maybe not the best in the whole country (we’ve not travelled enough of Thailand to say this is fact BUT … they’re epic!) 📍 Doi Inthanon National Park (an hour from Chiang Mai) These are the MOST STUNNING waterfalls we’ve seen so far! Just incredible and so worth adding to your Thailand trip! Which ones to add to your list? 👇 💧MAE Ya Waterfall - our FAVOURITE and it really doesn’t get super busy! Be sure to get there in the morning for the best light ☀️ Entry is 300 baht or you can use your national park ticket for free entry 💧 MAE Klang waterfall - STUNNING and so quiet when we visited! Afternoon is best for light on the falls and this one is within the NP so your ticket gets you in 💧 Watchirathan Waterfall - Okay you have to see this - it’s EPIC! The force of these falls is like nothing we’ve seen before …. BUT wow it’s SO busy unless you get there super early! Like people pushing you out of the way busy 😂 So be sure to arrive first thing! It’s within the NP so your ticket gets you in. 💧 The other waterfalls we saw that we LOVED were on the The Pha Dok Siew Nature Trail which was one of the most unique and epic things we did in Doi Inthanon as you go on a hike with a member of a tribe who spots snakes for you, leads you through rice paddies and past incredible falls all the way to a local village for tea! (More info on this soon) The best part? You could do ALL of these in one day if you hire a car from Chiang Mai as they’re all pretty close!
