The walk through the Siq Gorge of Petra is almost as good as the Treasury itself. The Siq gorge and Petra are among the most iconic and historically significant landmarks in Jordan. Here are some fun facts about them: 1. Natural Formation: The Siq is a narrow gorge, stretching about 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles), that acts as the main entrance to the ancient city of Petra. 2. Technicolor Walls: The walls of the Siq display a stunning array of colors and formations due to the various minerals present, creating natural artwork. 3. Water Channels: Ancient Nabateans, the builders of Petra, ingeniously constructed water conduits along the Siq to provide water to the city. 4. Dramatic Introduction: As visitors approach the end of the Siq, they get their first breathtaking glimpse of Al-Khazneh (“The Treasury”), one of Petra’s most iconic structures. 5. Rose-Red City: Petra is often referred to as the “Rose-Red City” due to the color of the stone from which its structures are carved. 6. Hidden City: Petra remained unknown to the Western world until 1812 when it was rediscovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. 7. Tombs and Temples: Petra is home to over 800 individual monuments, including buildings, tombs, baths, funerary halls, temples, arched gateways, and colonnaded streets. 8. World Wonder: In 2007, Petra was declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. 9. Popular in Pop Culture: Petra, particularly The Treasury, has featured in various films and TV shows. One of its most famous appearances is in the movie “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” 10. Archaeological Delights: Despite extensive archaeological efforts, it’s estimated that only about 15% of Petra has been uncovered. The majority of this ancient city remains underground, waiting to be explored. Both the Siq and Petra serve as testimony to the architectural genius and tenacity of the Nabateans, and their ability to carve a flourishing civilization in the heart of the desert. . . . . . . . #petra #jordan #visitjordan #tlpicks #neverunpacking #travel #sevenwonders

The monastery at Petra is lesser known than the famous treasury, built high into the mountain at the peak of a vast series of steps. It’s still just as impressive and an incredible architectural marvel ✨ #petra #jordan

One of the oldest bars in the world - the location not the actual bar part 😉 The perfect way to end your day after exploring Petra, there’s not much nightlife in Wadi Musa but the Cave Bar near the entrance of Petra is open until late! They serve food, drinks and shisha with some live music. Advertised as the oldest bar in the world, but I doubt it was used as bar all this time, it seems like it was an old tomb that they converted into a restaurant 🫠 #petrajordan🇯🇴 #petrajordan #cavebar #wadimusa #visitjordan #visitpetra #thetreasury #adventureisoutthere #bestplacestogo #beautifuldestinations #bestvacations #gltlove #dametraveler #darlingescapes #explorerbabes #girlswhotravel #womentravel #travelinladies #girldiscoverers #travelinspo #girlsthatwander #travelgirls #girlsborntotravel #travelandleisure

@adamaxoi I've never thought I would fall in love with the cultural heritage of Jordan. This place is so much more than #TheTreasury. Petra old city has more than the famous Treasury building to explore (Al- Khazhneh) It’s a total of more than 10km in easy to moderate hikes that will take you at least one full day to explore, ideally do it in 2 days. These are the seven must see attractions in Petra (by order of appearance) 1. High Place of Sacrifice 2. The Monastery 3. Siq Canyon 4. Street of Facades (before and after the Treasury square) 5. Byzantine church mosaics 6. Roman Amphitheater 7. Royal tombs namely Silk Tomb 8. Wadi Araba viewpoint 9. Colonnaded Street Gate I would say that there is a 10th one called Qasr Al-blint, you will pass by there between the Colonnaded street and the hike trail to the Monastery ! For the Treasury, Petra travel tips and Petra by night , check my previous reels, like and save them for your trip to Jordan. #petra #visitpetra #visitjordan #petrajordan #jordan #jordania #jordanie #igjordan #travelinspiration #travelreels #travelblogger #unescoworldheritage #unesco #sevenwonders #hiking #hikingadventures

The most beautiful monument in Petra is not only the Treasure but the Monastery! Twice as big as the Treasure, the hike to take you there will be a stunning scenario of mountains , canyons and many beautiful views along the way. It will take you around 2 hours with some breaks , you will have some food stands on the way up , as well as plenty of local handicrafts. Unlike the Treasure, you can actually have a look inside the tomb (no entry though) and several viewpoints to admire it from but my favorite was from this small cave on the left side. Only very few visitors make it all the way to the Monastery, so even if you won’t be alone it will feel much less crowded than the Treasure. Secret tip 1: check the 2 Bedouin viewpoints up the small hills near the Monastery, you will offered stunning views and no obligation to buy anything (but they will try) Secret tip 2: Besides the Treasure and the Monastery, make sure you visit all the 3 big Royal tombs on the right side, after the Roman amphitheater! One more spectacular than the one before . Also the mosaic church afterwards is worth a stop! Secret tip 3: be in the Treasure area close to midday to see the Treasure fully sunlit . After one hour it will become partially shadowed again! Last reel about Petra soon, stay tuned! #petra #visitpetra #petrajordan #jordan #jordania #shareyourjordan #visitjordan #wondersoftheworld #travelphotography #viral #travelreels
