After a morning of exploring, take a break and enjoy a traditional Malian lunch at La Maison du Bozo. After lunch, head to the Ahmed Baba Institute of Higher Learning and Islamic Research, which houses over 30,000 manuscripts dating back to the 13th century.

Spend your second day in Timbuktu visiting the Sankore Mosque, another UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once a center of Islamic learning. Afterward, head to the Timbuktu Manuscripts Project to learn more about the preservation of the ancient texts.

After lunch, visit the Al Farouk Monument, which commemorates the Battle of Al Farouk in 1898 between French and Tuareg forces. Take a break from the heat and enjoy a refreshing drink at the nearby Hotel La Colombe.
