3-Day Adventure in Haleakalā Itinerary

Start your day with a visit to the Haleakalā Visitor Center. This is the perfect place to get an overview of the park and its unique geological features. The center opens early, so you can get a head start on your day. Enjoy informative exhibits and pick up maps for your journey. Next, embark on the {Sunrise at Haleakalā [ID1]}. Watching the sunrise from the summit of Haleakalā is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The colors of the sky as the sun rises above the clouds are breathtaking and provide excellent photo opportunities. After sunrise, take a short hike along one of the nearby trails such as Pa Ka'oao Trail, which offers stunning views of the crater.

Head over to Kalahaku Overlook for more panoramic views of Haleakalā Crater. This spot is less crowded than some other viewpoints and offers an incredible perspective on the vastness of the crater. For lunch, drive down to Kula Lodge & Restaurant located about 45 minutes away from Kalahaku Overlook. This restaurant offers delicious local cuisine with stunning views of Maui's central valley. After lunch, explore Hosmer's Grove, located near the park entrance. This unique forest area features non-native trees planted by early foresters and provides a stark contrast to other parts of Haleakalā National Park.

In the evening, return to your accommodation for some rest before heading out for dinner at Polli's Mexican Restaurant in Makawao (about 30 minutes from Hosmer's Grove). Enjoy hearty Mexican dishes in a casual setting. After dinner, consider visiting Makawao Town for some evening shopping or just stroll around this charming town known for its paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) heritage. End your day with stargazing back at Haleakalā National Park. The high elevation and clear skies make it one of the best places in Hawaii for stargazing.
