Take a self-guided tour of the memorial and learn about the history of the presidents carved into the mountain. After visiting Mount Rushmore, drive a short distance to Crazy Horse Memorial, a massive sculpture in progress that honors the Native American warrior. Take a tour of the sculpture and visit the onsite museum to learn about the history and culture of Native Americans.

Start your day with a visit to the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, where you can learn about the geology and paleontology of the Black Hills region. The institute features a museum with displays of fossils and minerals, as well as a working laboratory where you can watch scientists at work. After visiting the institute, take a scenic drive through Custer State Park, where you can see bison, pronghorns, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
