The bridges are a testament to the ingenuity of the local Khasi tribe, who have been growing and shaping the roots of the Ficus Elastica tree for centuries, to create these unique bridges. The Double Decker Living Root Bridges are a sight to behold, with two levels of interwoven roots, spanning across a stream. The bridges are still in use by the locals, and visitors are welcome to cross them. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pools beneath the bridges, before heading back to Nongriat.

Morning
After breakfast, set out to explore the surrounding area. Nongriat is surrounded by lush, green hills, and there are several trekking trails that offer stunning views of the valleys and waterfalls. One such trail is the Rainbow Falls trek, which takes around 3-4 hours to complete. The trail takes you through dense forests, across streams, and past cascading waterfalls, before reaching the Rainbow Falls. The falls are a sight to behold, with water cascading down from a height of 100 feet, and creating a rainbow in the mist. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pool beneath the falls, before heading back to Nongriat.

After exploring Mawlynnong, head to the nearby village of Dawki, which is around 2 hours away from Nongriat. Dawki is known for its crystal clear river, which flows between India and Bangladesh. Take a boat ride on the river, and admire the stunning views of the surrounding hills and the riverbed.
