Start your day early and head out from Kozhikode to Guruvayur, one of the most sacred and famous temples in South India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The drive takes around 2 hours. Once you reach the temple town, take a bath and visit the temple to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. The temple opens at 3 AM and closes at 10 PM. The morning darshan usually starts at 3 AM and continues till 9 AM.
Afternoon
After visiting the temple, take a break and have lunch at one of the many vegetarian restaurants in the temple town. Some of the popular ones include Krishna Inn and Sree Krishna Bhavan. Later, visit the Mammiyoor Temple, which is located about 1 km from the main temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be closely associated with the Guruvayur Temple.
Evening
In the evening, attend the famous elephant procession at the temple. The procession usually starts at 4:30 PM and lasts for about an hour. You can watch the elephants being decorated with colorful decorations and carrying the deity of Lord Krishna. This is a must-see event that attracts a large number of devotees and tourists.
Morning
Start your day by visiting the Punnathur Kotta Elephant Sanctuary, which is located about 3 km from the temple town. This is a unique sanctuary where you can see more than 50 elephants being taken care of by the temple authorities. You can also feed the elephants and take a ride on them. The sanctuary opens at 9 AM and closes at 5 PM.
Afternoon
After visiting the elephant sanctuary, head to the nearby Chavakkad Beach. The beach is located about 5 km from the temple town and is a popular spot for locals and tourists. You can take a walk along the beach, explore the nearby fishing village, and try some fresh seafood at the local restaurants.
Evening
In the evening, visit the Devaswom Museum, which is located inside the temple complex. The museum has a collection of items related to the temple's history and the rituals performed here. You can also visit the nearby Sree Parthasarathy Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna's friend and charioteer, Arjuna. The temple is located about 2 km from the main temple.
